Niacin & Headaches 2

I am simply shocked at the hits my Niacin (actually known as Vitamin B3) & Headaches blog post gets every week.  It’s kind of crazy really but it just goes to show how many people suffer from headaches.

I have continued to reach for niacin instead of aspirin when I have a headache coming on.  I take 3 at a time throughout the day until it’s gone.  I don’t think I’ve ever had to take more than 6-8.

Please keep in mind I do not take niacin daily.  I only take it when symptoms occur and I’ve had tremendous luck with this technique.  Niacin calms and relaxes your mind and body.

I have also begun a new Chiropractic program through Maximized Living I will be adding a blog post specific to that watch for it to come.

Niacin is my drug of choice when it comes to headaches…how about you?

All B vitamins, often referred to as B complex vitamins, assist and regulate carbohydrate, fat and protein metabolism. These are essential mechanisms which produce energy for the body. They also contribute to hemoglobin synthesis and red blood cell production which carries oxygen around the body. Furthermore, B complex vitamins help maintain muscle tone along the wall of the digestive tract and promote healthy skin, hair, eyes, mouth, liver and nervous system.

Niacin plays an important role in removing toxic and harmful chemicals from the body. It also helps the body make various sex and stress-related hormones in the adrenal glands and other parts of the body. Niacin helps to maintain the central nervous system and is also effective in improving circulation and reducing cholesterol levels in the blood. It also helps maintain a healthy skin, tongue and digestive system and prevents pellagra. Pellagra is the name given to the medical condition that results from a lack of niacin and symptoms include weakness, sore mouth and irritability. Niacin requirements can be partially met by eating foods containing protein because the human body is able to convert tryptophan, an amino acid, into niacin.

    Hello;
    As a fellow migraneur who has tried most everything, I’d like to know what dosage you find useful for aborting migraine, and do you use a sustained release formula?

      Thanks for your question. As I mentioned in my first post…My husband and I watched a wellness documentary on Netflix and the founder of Alcoholics Anonymous found that when addicts took 3000 mg of niacin their addictive desires were virtually eliminated and they were calmer….I don’t know why I decided to try it for my migraines. I am not addicted to drug and alcohol but I used to have a serious sugar addiction. I continue to take Niacin instead of aspirin and it has helped my headaches considerably. I don’t take it regularly, I only take it when I feel a headache coming on. When I’m in a full blown migraine it doesn’t do much good but if I can catch it before it gets out of control I find the Niacin is a healthy alternative. After researching Niacin more I found it’s a B vitamin with many calming properties. Be sure to do your own research because there is concern about taking it in high doses on a regular basis but I am very in touch with my inner guidance system and do what I am led to.

      I am also doing regular Chiropractic care with amazing results. I started 2x/week 3 months, 1x/week 2 months. 1x/mo 2 mos. I was almost headache free when I severely sprained my ankle and it took a huge toll on my spine and head and now I am going every week again. Many blessings on your journey to health~ Julie

        Here’s a strage story;
        I have taking vitamins & herbs every morning for 40 some years, including 500 mg of niacin.
        Since I was a kid, I always had sick to my stomach headaches, have taken everything on the map to give me relief, ice bags over my head, heating pads, you name it I did it.
        I had all of my wisdom teeth pulled in my 30’s thinking they were giving me the headaches.

        Now here’s the crazy part.
        A month ago I ran out of niacin, didn’t go get any for about 2-3 weeks, and didn’t have any headaches.

        I went out on a vitamin run, and bought more vitamins.
        Took the usual 500mg when I went to bed, woke up the next morning with a pounder.

        I haven’t taken another for a week, and again, no headaches.

        Go figure.
        So, I think after all this time, it is pure heaven not having pounders every day.

        What a true sweet duscovery!

          That is a strange story!! I am glad you have found relief. I continue to take niacin but ONLY AS NEEDED. I do not take it regularly like a vitamin. I take it like I would take aspirin… only when I feel headachy or anxious. And I actually take three 500mg capsules at a time. But again ONLY AS NEEDED not daily. Thank you for sharing it is a perfect testament that we are all different and you just need to keep trying (or not trying) different things until you find what works. Blessings ❤️

    Hi Julie ~ Thank you for replying to Susan. I am with the same questions which unfortunately I’m still not clear on. So what was your dosage of Niacin for headaches exactly and which form of Niacin were you taking? Thank you for your help.

      Michelle,

      I use Niacin, Spring Valley, 500 mg, Flush Free.

      I take like aspirin 3 at a time every 4-6 hrs not more than 9 in a day.

      I do NOT take it daily.

      I only take when I feel a headache/migraine coming on or when I’m feeling unusually stressed out.

      If I wait too far into the headache/migraine it does not help at all. The key is to use it at the onset.

      I’ve also begun using 5HTP by Designs for Health for anxiety. I take it in the afternoon 1-2 or late evening it also helps with sleep.

    Thank you, it worked. I took regular, not flush free, so I got a heavy duty flush, and then chills later, but migraine is gone. 🙂

      Yea, it’s crazy good but that flush-free is truly the only way to go. Not worth that preventable hotflash especially when you take in bigger doses for a headache/migraine. My new “go-to” is HEMP OIL.
