3 Ways to Increase Traffic on Your Website
Do you have a welcome video on your website?
If you’ve never done a video I HIGHLY encourage one. If I’ve learned anything in my 5 years in business it is to make sure you have…
1) A FREE gift to collect names & email addresses. It’s like going on a fabulous date with the man of your dreams and never exchanging contact information. As he walks out the door so do your chances of connecting with him again.
2) A monthly NEWSLETTER to engage all those email addresses. Collecting the information in #1 is a waste of time if it just sits there on your computer and rots. And, so, just like with your date, you want to figure out a way to stay connected, to build a great relationship. Baby steps remember. No buying the wedding dress just yet.
3) A VIDEO on your home page of you smiling, looking great and inviting them into your world. This one is what blocked me for 3 years. First I didn’t have a video camera, and then it was sound issues, and then it was just all too complicated, and then I was having a bad hair day, and then I just looked too goofy in the video.
And then, I woke up one day and said today is the day, before I lay my head on the pillow I’m going to make and post that damn video…
IF IT’S THE LAST THING I DO!!!
And so, just like with your date, you want to make sure you put your best foot forward. No talking about the fight you just got into with the lady at Walmart, or your exboyfriend, or how you’re afraid you’re going to end up a lonely cat lady if you don’t meet the man of your dreams soon, or, you get the point.
You want to look great, feel great, sound great because you only get one chance to make a first impression and first impressions go a long way to a lasting relationship in your personal and professional life.
I must admit, this is actually the second video I posted. The first video I had up I hated my hair, my make up and my voice (to rehearsed sounding) and after watching it the third day I decided I could NOT live with it and redid it.
Now when I watch this one, I get warm fuzzies all over and my FAVORITE part is the last line. Sometimes I go to my website and click on my video just to hear the last line…it’s so cool to look myself in the eye and hear that girl on the screen say that to me because I know she truly means it.

Let’s all rock this world with our AWESOMENESS!!
Admittedly the intro video I have not done though have contemplated it for some time- but not sure if I will or not- I do make other videos though so people can get to know me.
Thanks for the reminder!
Great tips! The video has been on my list, now I guess it’s bumped farther up : )
Very nicely done and all great suggestions. Doing some video has been on my to-do list but, yep, if I’m home for the day, I don’t tend to do my hair so that doesn’t work and, if I’m going out, I don’t have time to sit and do a video LOL. How’s that for a bunch of excuses. Doing my hair doesn’t even take that much time. I guess it’s time to get down to it.
I can totally relate – which is why it took me so long to do it. Your 1 day of being a rock star is totally worth getting all dolled up just for the camera.
Second question…how do you get it to stay at the top of your blog and not work its way down?
The one posted in this blog post is in addition to the one that is PERMANENTLY located at the top of my website on the right-hand side. I just used a widget and copy and pasted the embed code (from the file I uploaded to youtube) into the widget.
Great idea, but I would look sooooooo goofy. Will give it some thought.
No you won’t look goofy!! Sammi Johnson (www.sammiissocial.com) was my inspiration. She taught me to stop thinking about it and “just do it!”
great post Julia, lately I’ve been coming across articles that are replying to my internal dialogues. I was pondering recently that it’s about time to create a welcome video for my website and here comes your post saying, yes, go for it! Perfect timing!
Love your video and you look lovely!
Interesting how you called me Julia – I’ve always wished my name were Julia. Funny. Thanks my dear and good luck on your welcome video…can’t wait to see it!!
Lovely Julie! I have not yet made a video-but this is inspiring me to do so!
I’m with you…took 20 months to make my first video. Still gotta get one up on the JF site now…lol! Baby steps.
Love this…made me smile and you are right…boosting traffic is what it’s about.
Julie, lovely work in your video, and great tips for any site owner to boost traffic! Yay!
You have a great welcome video!
I don’t have a welcome video up on my site YET but i will once the time is right. But I do use video for other things and really enjoy making them. I used to hate making them…I felt all awkward and stiff. Then I went to Video Rockstar University and it really helped.
Julie, OK…ordering my microphone from amazon today as a next step to get my video up. Been talking about it now time for action. Your post inspired me! And I LOVE how welcoming you are in your freebie and the energy of your site!
